Eco & Fair
Woman of Vegan stands for ethical, sustainable and high quality long lasting pieces. We are committed to manufacturing ethically, with respect for the people and the planet. We also take fair fashion very seriously, that's why we only work with Fair Wear Foundation verified manufactures.
Where and how are your products made?
We currently source our products from fair trade manufactures located in India and Bangladesh. 100% of the production process is strictly supervised by the Fair Wear Foundation and we are really proud to support fair working conditions to workers around the world.
You can read more about the Fair Wear Foundation here.
Our designs are handprinted in our studio in Berlin. We use ecological, water-based ink, produced according to the criteria of the Oeko-Tex 100 standard.
Our products are produced in small quantities and in a slow/artisan way.
Why do you currently source from these manufactures?
We are an independent, small and young company. The manufactures we currently source our products from allowed us to produce in very small quantities which is crucial for a new company starting out. We strongly believe in the importance of supporting manufactures committed to fair and sustainable working conditions, no matter where they are geographically located.
When it comes to the climate neutral manufacture facility in India, we haven’t found a factory in Europe that can produce as sustainable as they can. The vertically integrated garment factory in Tamil Nadu, Southern India, holds one of the most progressive sustainable facilities in the world.
After replacing standard grid electricity with renewable wind and solar power, from low-impact raw materials, the factory is powered entirely by green renewable energy. Through a combination of innovative product design with low impact organic agriculture, the production carbon footprint was reduced by 90%, taking the greenhouse gas emissions to pre-industrial levels. It has been calculated that a single T-shirt saves around 7 kilograms of CO2e compared to a conventional T-shirt, whereas a hooded sweatshirt saves up to 28 kgs - and we think that’s pretty impressive!
The ultra-modern infrastructure provides the perfect setting for a socially and environmentally responsible production.
Nonetheless, we plan on bringing our production closer to home as we grow.
Our manufactures hold the following certifications:
Fair Wear Foundation:
Fair Wear Foundation is an organisation committed to find a fairer way to make clothes. They work with garment manufactures, brands and workers to improve labour conditions in garment factories.
Being a FWF member guarantees a strict supervised production throughout the supply chain. The organisation conducts independent checks at three levels: at the brand level to see which current business practices and management decisions are likely to create problems down the line at the factory level and which are helping support better labour conditions; at the factories to inspect working conditions; and lastly, by hearing directly from the garment workers. These thorough checks provide the starting point for real change to occur.
The GOTS® (Global Organic Textile Standard) is a guarantee of the organic status of textiles; from the harvesting of raw cotton to dispatch of the finished garments whilst ensuring all is done in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies the absence of harmful chemical substances in products thanks to the “Confidence in textile” label.
PETA approved vegan:
We believe cruelty is one fashion statement we can all do without. Our apparel is made from 100% vegan materials, so you can be confident that no harm came to anyone during its creation. While our designs are printed using vegan water-based ink, our manufactures are PETA Approved Vegan.
EarthPositive®, our manufacture in India, holds one of the most progressive sustainable manufacture facilities in the world. Having taken the greenhouse gas emissions to pre-industrial levels, all products from EarthPositive® carry the registered mark “Climate Neutral”.
